UM-FAU not just a pipe dream

Could FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger be coaching against Miami, the school he put on the map in the early 1980s.

It looks like a game between the Owls and the Hurricanes could be a reality in 2009 if both sides can agree to terms.

That’s a big “if” because when money is involved (how much UM would FAU to come to Dolphin Stadium) it would be easy for either side to decide the game wouldn’t work for them.

Miami doesn’t have an unlimited bank account to pay huge game guarantees and FAU has limited resources and making money by playing football games is the No. 1 way of funding its athletic department.

However, for the first time parties from both schools have stated they would like to see a game happen - and that’s a big step in the right direction because it’s clearly a game the fans of both schools want to see.
