Owls coach Howard Schnellenberger has a unique perspective on Saturday's brawl between Miami and Florida International.
Schnellenberger coached the Hurricanes for five seasons and led them to the first of their five national championships in 1983. He knows FIU well, as both programs started within a year of each other, joined the Sun Belt Conference together and play annually in the Shula Bowl.
''I was watching the game at the time in my home, and it was just really disheartening to see two Miami teams, two South Florida teams, fall into that trap of trying to beat somebody with talk rather than with play,'' said Schnellenberger, whose team will play host to Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday.
``It was really disheartening for everybody that loves college football and particularly here in Florida, or anywhere in the nation, really. To have something like that happen, it's really disgraceful.''
