Smith’s arm still sore
BOCA RATON - Earlier this week, Florida Atlantic coach Howard Schnellenberger canceled the scrimmage set for Wednesday’s practice, but when an officiating crew showed up, why not put them to work and have the team work through some situational plays?
I don’t know what the definition of “scrimmage” is, but what the team went through Wednesday had limited contact and no tackling so I would call it “light practice with officials watching.”
It was very light indeed for quarterback Rusty Smith, who said Tuesday he would back at full speed on Wednesday. Instead he only threw a few times during the aformentioned practice. when asked about Smith’s two-day break , Schnellenberger said said “even if he didn’t have some pain in it, I would have eased him back.” I guess “pain” could include general soreness, but it’s obviously going to be something to look for the next few practices. Schnellenberger said he thought Smith would be throwing on Thursday. It could be as simple as a pitcher who has a sore arm after a game. I guess we’ll see if Smith can go on just two-days rest or of the bullpen of Sean Clayton and Jeff Van Camp need to help him out.
Here’s the official injury report after the practice with biggest news being Bonner’s injury being more serious than thought. We’ll likely be seeing WRs Conshario Johnson opposite Cortez Gent vs. MTSU.
