BOCA RATON — Florida Atlantic, which has already lost its leading receiver to academics and another receiver who started every game last season, could be without another offensive player slated to be a starter.
Senior tight end Mike Wilds, who has battled injuries since arriving at FAU in 2004, is having doubts about continuing his career after nearly dislocating his shoulder during Saturday's practice, according to Owls coach Howard Schnellenberger. Jason Harmon, a junior, practiced with the first team at tight end.
Longhorns looming: FAU has reached an agreement to play at Texas next year, a team source said. FAU Athletic Director Craig Angelos said no contract has been signed, but did confirm there have been discussions between the Owls and Longhorns.
The game could be a financial windfall for FAU. Texas reportedly is paying Arkansas State $750,000 for providing the opposition to the Longhorns in this year's season opener.
