Florida Atlantic will play the University of Florida in 2007 and 2011, FAU officials announced Saturday.

The Owls, who begin their second and final transition year of moving to Division I-A this season, will travel to Gainesville both years.

Florida is tentatively set to host to FAU on Nov. 17, 2007, and Sept. 3, 2011. The week in November is traditionally a bye week for Florida.

"I wanted to thank Jeremy Foley for giving us the opportunity to grow our program by playing a great in-state powerhouse such as Florida," FAU Athletic Director Craig Angelos said. "It really adds credibility to our young program."

FAU has played other I-A teams in the state, but not the traditional powers. In 2002, the Owls lost to South Florida, and in 2003, FAU lost to Central Florida. The Owls also will face Florida International each year. The Golden Panthers also are moving next season to I-A.

"We want to play a strong out-of-conference schedule," FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger said. "That's the best way to get recognition, and playing teams such as Florida will help recruiting."

Florida officials could not be reached for comment.
